An American describing themselves as "crypto-anarchist" and known for his fight for the weapons made with a 3D printer is wanted by the police, accused of having sex with a girl under 16, authorities announced on Wednesday.
During the summer, Cody Wilson was able to publish on the internet the software for making plastic firearms with a 3D printer, pushing a federal court to order an injunction to stop him.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Austin Police Service told the public that Wilson was still not in custody. The last known location of the founder of the Defense is in Taipei (Taiwan) and he skipped his flight to the States. The authorities believe he has received advice on the new allegations.
"We know that Mr. Wilson travels frequently on business," said Commander Troy Officer of the organized crime division of ODA shortly after 2 pm. "We do not know why he went to Taiwan, but we know he was informed that he was under investigation."
This judicial episode, which had caused turmoil in the United States, allowed Cody Wilson to gain some notoriety.
Mr. Wilson's national profile grew this year when he announced plans to put plans for 3D printed guns online on the Defense Distributed website in early August. He was barred from doing so following a lawsuit by attorneys general from 19 states and Washington, DC.
An arrest warrant has been issued against him by the police in Austin, announced one of its officials Wednesday.
But police said they had trouble finding Mr. Wilson, who had missed a flight back to the United States from Taipei to Taiwan, his last known location.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the CO. Officer Troy of the Austin Police Service stated that a warrant had been filed for the arrest of Mr. Wilson and that local detectives were working with national and international partners to find him.
Mr. Wilson, 30, is charged with having sex with a 16-year-old girl at an Austin hotel on August 15 and paying him $ 500 in cash, according to a sworn affidavit filed in the County of Travis.
The girl told the police that she had met Mr. Wilson via the SugarDaddyMeet.com website, where he used the screen name "Sanjuro," the affidavit says.
Cody Wilson, 30, was last located in Taiwan. He is charged with sexual assault and faces up to 20 years in prison.
According to the girl, she and Wilson took a lift to the 7th floor, where they entered room 718. Again, the hotel's surveillance video corroborated her account, and the hotel records confirmed that Wilson was registered at the hotel tonight. After their meeting, Wilson would have paid him five $ 100 bills.
Police said that Wilson then drove the girl 33 miles south and filed it to a Whataburger. Once again, the police found that video footage corroborated his account.
One week after the alleged meeting, a counselor contacted APD on August 22 to inform them that one of his clients had been involved in this incident. The detectives then interviewed the girl, who provided many details about her alleged encounter with Wilson.
The girl's parents also allowed the police to search the girl's iPhone. There, the authorities found many messages and links to SugarDaddyMeet.com, the website where Wilson and the girl apparently met.
The police eventually matched Wilson's Texan driving license, which would have gone through the "Sanjuro" handle, along with Sanjuro's profile picture on the website.Wilson and the girl first exchanged messages via SugarDaddyMeet and later via iMessages. He would have ended up telling the girl that he was a "big problem". When she tried to learn more about him, the girl found many articles about the digital firearms activist.
He paid $ 500 to his alleged victim, a 16-year-old girl, for having sex with her on August 15 after meeting her on a site for "Sugar Daddy", a name given to elderly men tending a young person, often in exchange for sex.
When asked if Wilson said anything that he knew the reality of the situation, the Cmdr. The agent did not share any details of the messages between Wilson and the girl referenced in the court documents. "Every time you apply, whether as a child or as an adult, it's illegal," said Cmdr. Officer. "This is a child, but I do not think my detectives sat down with an [alleged perpetrator] that said," I knew the victim was a minor. "
An arrest warrant has been issued against him by the police in Austin, announced one of its officials Wednesday. Cody Wilson, 30, was last located in Taiwan. He is charged with sexual assault and faces up to 20 years in prison.
She and Mr. Wilson, who identified with the girl, exchanged phone numbers and then continued to send each other messages, each sharing at least one explicit photo, according to the affidavit.
During a conversation, Mr. Wilson described himself as a "big problem," says the affidavit.
"We are working with our national and international law enforcement partners to find him and bring him to justice," police said.
Before leaving the country, Cody Wilson had learned that the girl had spoken to the police.
