NVIDIA GeForce RTX: 10 times faster than Pascal

At a special Nvidia event during Gamescom 2018, Nvidia introduced a new generation of graphics cards after a break of two years.

There are new GPUs for gamers that will be particularly well suited for the raytracing technique. You can see how that looks in the impressive real-time raytracing trailer above.
Alan Turing, one of the forefathers of the modern computer, is the namesake of Nvidia's new GPU architecture "Turing". After the Quadro cards for professional users have already been presented in advance, Nvidia finally has the players on the radar at Gamescom 2018. With the three high-end cards Violating its own traditions, NVIDIA introduced three models of the GeForce family: the flagship RTX 2080 Ti, as well as the sub flagship RTX 2080 and RTX 2070. The new architecture brought a tenfold increase in performance using ray tracing in computer graphics compared to the Pascal generation. The RTX 2080 Ti is capable of processing up to 10 billion beams per second, while 1080 Ti is only 1.28 billion beams. At the same time, according to Huang, the novelty works 10 times quieter than its predecessor.

Geforce RTX 2070, Geforce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti Nvidia served in the first step well-heeled gamers because the prices are pretty tough.

In addition to the new Turing architecture, the updated GeForce 20 series graphics cards changed the index from GTX to RTX, which means support for ray tracing technology. No less important innovation was the appearance in the consumer line of tensor kernels - before they could be seen only in professional GPU for calculations. These cores allow you to process pixels in real time, rather than anticipating the vector of the image movement, as when using traditional TAA smoothing. For this parameter, the RTX 2080 Ti is 10 times faster than the 1080 Ti.

Nvidia has unveiled its new generation of graphics cards, designed specifically for desktop gaming PCs, as part of the Cologne video games fair Gamescom. The new series is named Nvidia RTX and draws a line under the previous GTX designation of the previous series. The "R" in the name is reportedly dedicated to dedicated processor units specialized in real-time ray tracing calculation. This makes it possible to simulate light and reflections in video games close to reality. A feature which until now has been reserved primarily for pre-rendered content such as 3D animated films due to the high computational complexity.

So should the flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti from 1,000 US dollars (without taxes) to be had. The "smaller" RTX 2080 is just under $ 700 and the RTX 2070 is around $ 500.

According to experience, the euro price will be comparable or even higher and not 1: 1 converted from dollars to euros - but then including all taxes and duties. All three cards will be available from September 20 and can be preordered now. Nvidia itself will once again start as a seller of its own boards. In addition, board partners such as Asus, Zotac, and others will also bring appropriate cards to the market.

Nvidia claims that the RTX family's models deliver six times more horsepower than comparable models in the latest GTX series. This is quantified with RTX operations per second, which are a hodgepodge of raytracing, shading and other calculations. In addition to the dedicated raytracing processors new is, among other things, the change to faster GDDR6 memory modules. In addition, a display up to 8K resolution with 60 Hz is now possible and virtual reality enthusiasts are happy about their own USB-C VirtualLink port, with which you only need a cable to connect a VR glasses.

Nvidia herself did not speak a word about classic specifications during the presentation. Only abstract values such as "RTX-OPS" and "Giga-Rays / s" were cited as indicators of performance. In the meantime, the official Nvidia website has been expanded by numerous other key figures. In a table we summarize all the data of the RTX 2070, the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti summarized and keep the Specs of the Geforce GTX 1080 against it. All bold specifications are already confirmed; the rest you have to currently consider as a probable rumor.
