President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he accepted the resignation of ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, who will step down at the end of the year to take time off.

Trump announced that he would appoint his successor in two or three weeks, but did not offer other details. Haley, who was governor of South Carolina when she elected her to the UN post, had asked to leave office six months ago, Trump told reporters.
Addressing Haley directly, Trump praised the diplomat saying she had done a "fantastic job".
