US Senator McCain wants to stop Cancer Treatment

After more than 30 years in the Senate, John McCain is a political institution for many Americans. Now the seriously ill US senator renounces further cancer treatment. He suffers from a brain tumor.

The seriously cancer sufferer US Senator John McCain has discontinued his treatment. "The progress of the disease and the relentlessness of aging have their verdict," said McCain's family on Friday. "With his usual willpower," the 81-year-old decided to quit chemotherapy. Vietnam War veteran McCain is one of the most prominent critics of US President Donald Trump within the Republican Party.

American Republican Senator John McCain, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2017, decided to abandon further treatment.

McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor last year. For the past few months, McCain has not been in the Senate, to which he has been a member for more than three decades. Instead, he stopped for cancer therapy at his home in the state of Arizona. "I love my husband with all my heart. God bless anyone who took care of my husband during his trip, "said McCain's wife Cindy. His daughter Meghan also thanked the public for their support. "My family is deeply grateful for all the love and generosity you showed us during the past year," she wrote in the Twitter short message service.

"John has already exceeded expectations for the remaining life," the report says.

The family indicated that McCain's age and progressing illness led to a decision to stop treatment against an aggressive glioblastoma. The senator is now 81 years old, on August 29 he will turn 82. In May, McCain said he wanted instead of the current US President Donald Trump at his funeral was present Vice President Michael Pence.

"His heroism is inspiring"

It was not the first time that McCain had been diagnosed with cancer. In the 1990s and 2000s, several melanomas were removed - a malignant form of skin cancer. The Republican Majority Leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, was dismayed. He was "very sad," McConnell said. "We are so happy to call him our friend and colleague." He will take the 81-year-old and his family in his prayers.

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said nobody better personifies McCain than "honor, patriotism, service, and sacrifice." He added, "His heroism is inspiring, his life shapes our character."

Democratic Congressman Joe Kennedy III described McCain as a "warrior in the truest sense of the word". All thoughts are with "an inspiring man and a loving family". McCain is one of the most prominent members of the US Senate. In 1967 he was taken the prisoner in the Vietnam War, was tortured and released only after about five years.

His relationship with Trump is heavily burdened. During the presidential campaign, Trump mocked the veteran. For him, McCain was "not a hero," said Trump, who himself had once bypassed the military service: "I like people who were not caught, okay?".
